# Native MT5 MCP versus a hosted MCP server

> MetaQuotes' terminal MCP and fxapis's hosted MCP are different places to run MetaTrader 5. Neither is the only route. Compare where the terminal runs, how you…

MetaQuotes added MCP to the MetaTrader 5 terminal in build 6060 (23 July 2026). That server runs inside the terminal on the machine where the terminal is open. fxapis runs a separate MCP server at `https://api.fxapis.com/mcp`. The terminal is in our cloud. These are not two names for one product.

Checked against MetaQuotes' terminal help and the fxapis MCP guide on 1 November 2026. Native MCP exists. fxapis is not the only MCP route, and not every ChatGPT plan can call every tool.

| | Native terminal MCP | fxapis hosted MCP |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Where MT5 runs | On the computer that has the terminal open | In the fxapis cloud. Your computer can be off. |
| Who it can reach | Clients that can open that machine | Any MCP client that can call an HTTPS URL |
| Sign-in | Whatever the terminal build asks for | Sign in (OAuth) for Claude and ChatGPT. An API key for Cursor, VS Code, and unattended agents. |
| Read-only | Depends on the terminal build and the account password you used | A key or grant without `trading:execute`. A separate read-only connector is at `/mcp/insights`. |
| Trading | The terminal's own permissions | Only if the key or grant allows it, and only on the accounts you picked |
| Several accounts | One terminal is logged into one account | One workspace, many accounts, each brought online on its own |
| Your job | Keep the terminal running and reachable | Connect each account once. Revoke the app or the key when you are done. |

Start with the [MCP guide](/guides/mcp) if you want the hosted path, and the [read-only guide](/guides/mcp-read-only) if the assistant must not trade. The [landing page](https://fxapis.com/mcp) uses the same split: sign in for interactive clients, a key for scripts.
